Where are we?

We are located in Skagafjörður, North Iceland. Once at the village Varmahlið (on the Ring Road No. 1), take road 752, and drive 21 km South into the valley until the sign Sölvanes.

Our farm is located at the foot of the mountain Hamraheiði, which lies on the West side of the fjord. Above Hamraheiði lies Járnhryggur (900m) and a little more West rises Mælifellshnjukur, the most iconic mountain of Skagafjörður, over 1100m. From Mælifellsdalur is a marked hiking path to the summit, where the view is beyond magic!

Sölvanes is 45 km from Sauðárkrókur, about 300 km from Reykjavík and about 110 km from Akureyri, the capital of North Iceland.

Our farm is very conveniently located for those getting to the highland road Kjölur, just 10 km North of Sölvanes. Drive up road 752, then take road F756 and from there you can reach Kjölur.

Likewise, to get to Sprengisandur from our farm, you need to drive to Vesturdalur following road 752, and further South onto road F752 which leads up to Laugafell on Sprengisandur.

Please note that it is not possible to drive the highland roads in small/low cars and that the road to Sprengisandur is usually not opened until the beginning of July. For information about road conditions, and safe travelling in Iceland visit vegagerdin.is and safetravel.is .
